About 1.1 million Opel Rekord Ds were made between 1972 and 1977. As the name Rekord D was easily mistaken to connote a diesel-powered car, the name Rekord II was often used in sales literature. It was available with 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1 litre four-cylinder petrol engines. There was also a diesel version – initially a 2.1 litre, latterly reduced to 2.0 litres.  This car was also sold as the Saehan Rekord in Korea and in South Africa as the Chevrolet 2500/3800/4100.  Here, the engines were once again provided by Chevrolet.

The six-cylinder variant of this car is badged the Commodore B. Versions of this car were sold as the Chevrolet Iran and Royale 2500 and 2800 in Iran and as the Saehan Rekord Royale in Korea.

The GM Ranger was sold in Belgium from 1972-78 and Switzerland from 1972-75, with a variety of engines from 1.7 litres to 2.8 litres.
