The new Minnesota flag and a critique of the flag reform movement from one of their instigators

Lots of cities and even states in the USA are changing their flags from intrincated, forgettable and/or childish designs to more modern and simple creations. And one very vocal YouTuber on the forefront of shaming those old designs back when the movement for changing flags was beginning is having second thoughts about this all.

I half agree with J.J. here. While it is true that the guidelines from the American Vexillological Association are obviously subjective and should have never been taken as revealed truth, and some of the new flag designs are indeed coming out as unoriginal and indistinctive, I don’t think that means changing the old flags was a mistake. They were bad and boring. It’s only that the new designs should have been more creative and paid less reverence to what the flag snobs might say. I still like most of the new flags, like those from Utah and Mississippi.

I mostly thinkg we agree close to 100% and J.J. just decided to use a provocative video title. AND that maybe after some years have passed, we might warm up to the new flags. Or just change them again!
